Anxiety and panic were the feelings that seemed to rule my heart Monday. Part of it was realizing that Christmas will be here next week and I don’t feel the least bit ready. I don’t even have the lists started to finish shopping for final gifts and Christmas dinner too. My in-laws are coming, but I’m not sure when…how much do I really need to clean my house?
It’s so easy to get caught up in seasonal activities, events and “to dos” that we can become overwhelmed. That’s where I was, and then I was reminded of our theme for Pilgrimage to Bethlehem – “Nothing is Impossible with God.”
This is always true, as His word tells us so. Many times we try to do it all ourselves, when all we need to do is simply remember to rely on the Father and His promises.
Whether we are marking off a checklist of things to do, missing a loved one, or just not feeling in a seasonal spirit, God is there for us. CHRISTMAS is the ultimate evidence of that! 1 John 4:9 tells us that “This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.”
One of the truly great things about Christmas is that it’s always ready for us. Even, and especially when we don’t feel ready for Him. Jesus is always there, waiting for us to come to him. He is waiting to share our burdens, tears, joy and the freedom of His salvation.
God help us to fill our hearts with love this season and to share to most precious gift of all…the story of your son. Merry Christmas, and in the words of my seven-year-old, “Dear God, help Jesus to have an awesome birthday!”
