As most of you are aware, on the fourth Thursday of each month from 10:00 – noon, Emmanuel partners with Volunteers of America (VOA) and the Homeless Coalition in their “Helping to Overcome Homelessness: H2O” outreach to members of the local homeless community. H2O is held the third Thursday of November and December to accomodate the holidays. Emmanuel’s parking lot provides a central downtown location for various community agencies and churches to deliver an array of services and ministries such as medical screenings, information for veterans, housing assistance and even haircuts and massages. Almost ten churches minister to the participants by providing lunch, clothing, hygiene items, blankets, mats and other needed items.
The Emmanuel H2O Committee determined that our mission is to distribute any items that church members donate from the suggested monthly/seasonal VOA list plus other items we have learned that are needed and enjoyed. The VOA list is available each month in the Emmanuel Life, Table Talk and in the mission corner of Weems Hall.
For November these the VOA suggested items includes hand warmers, gloves, knit caps and fruit snacks. Additionally the Committee asks for donations of soft fruit (bananas, oranges, grapes, peaches, etc.) and travel size hygiene items (soap, shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, lotion and hand sanitizer.) Monetary donations are also appreciated and will be used to purchase fruit and other items for the homeless.
Thank you for helping to make this mission a success. If you have any questions please contact any member of the committee: Hilda Brown, Carol Reiszner, Patsy Byles, Patty Crout, Mary Manziano and Carol Pugh.
