Ah, the middle of June…around here it means sweet corn, blueberries, 90-plus temps and – what else? – the Summer Choir Concert! It’s what’s happening at Emmanuel this Sunday, June 22, at 6 p.m. in Weems Hall, followed by an ice cream social.
Summer Choir, which began years ago as a plan to ward off “summer slump” in the choir loft, has evolved into a cherished Emmanuel tradition. New faces and voices join with long-time singers to present an informal concert in mid-June. The concert songs are sung in worship throughout the summer. Everyone, including new singers, old singers, music leaders and congregation, emerges a winner.
This year it seems that more singers than ever before have joined Summer Choir. We have faced happy problems like finding enough robes, sheet music and chairs to go around.
And the mysterious musical miracle – the one where God gathers up our feeble, lisping efforts and transforms them into an offering of praise – unfolds before our very eyes and ears. Please don’t miss the Summer Choir Concert – a mid-June evening of music, devotion and old-fashioned fun.
