I shouldn’t have been surprised, but I couldn’t help myself. It was this past Monday, our first day of meeting for this year’s TAG summer camp, and I was watching a scene unfold. Western music blared from the speakers and a stage full of dancing children were singing in unison about the “Wild, Wild West”. And it was wonderful!
I couldn’t quite comprehend how it was that we had come so far in just a few short hours. But I guess that is what can happen when we work together with a great goal and an even greater God.
TAG is a tremendous undertaking, and while there is a stage and an audience, it is so much more than a theater experience for our children. TAG itself stands for Truth, Arts and Growth. The truth we are learning comes through our Bible studies. Their focus is on the story of Jonah and how God can redeem even floundering cities and wayward prophets.
We also want each child to interact with art in its various forms from painting to performing. And at the heart of it all, we pray, is the growth that comes from working with others, singing God’s truths and helping the church to proclaim its message of grace to all ages.
These weeks to come will be busy…and stressful…delightful.
We will call on you for props like cowboy hats and wagon wheels. We will look to you to be present for our performances on June 28 and 29 so the children will know they are loved and supported by their church family. And we will covet your prayers that all will be blessed by our efforts.
